Operating and Sinking Fund Millage Restorations

In 1994 Michigan voters ratified Proposal A calling for a new, more equitable means of school funding. These Operating Millages are renewable every 10 years, and account for 45% of the AAPS annual operating budget.

On Tuesday, May 6 Ann Arbor voters will be asked to renew the 18 mill Non-Homestead and 12.4675 mill Hold Harmless (Homestead) millages as well as the 1 mill Sinking Fund, a limited pay-as-you-go fund designated exclusively for building remodeling, repair and improvement projects.

     Before you cast your ballot, please consider...
• Continuation of 18 mills levied primarily on business, industrial and second home properties in the school district, in place since 1994/1995 (Proposal A.)
• Of the 18 mills levied, 12.4675 mills are levied on non-primary residences with 4.7232 mills levied on primary residences to hold Ann Arbor Public Schools harmless.
• All Ann Arbor registered voters are eligible to vote on the proposal.
• This proposal currently supplies 45% of Ann Arbor Public Schools' State operating funds.
• This proposal is required for Ann Arbor Public Schools to receive its full allocation of operating funds from the Michigan legislature.
• The funding goes directly to operate Ann Arbor Public Schools.
